Our teaching is student-centered, and focuses on a student’s personal goals. This means students may be learning vocabulary for a new job, answers to questions on the US Citizenship exam, basic computer skills, or how to pass a driving test, for example.

All students whose first language is not English are welcome to attend English language classes here. We also tutor native English speakers who have not yet earned a high school diploma but continue to work toward their goals.

Volunteer Tutors work with students in small groups of 1 to 4 to help them reach their personal goals while teaching them to read, write, speak English, or improve their math skills.

We also help guide students on their career path to employment, or better employment, by identifying their barriers to success, and helping them overcome them.

We teach over 350 adults and families to read, write and speak English, each year, with the help of 150 highly trained volunteer tutors.

By contributing, you help improve the lives of hundreds of adults and families in Central CT.

Literacy Volunteers of Central CT has helped adults and families improve their lives through literacy for 43 years.

The need for adult literacy in Central Connecticut is great - and growing rapidly.
