Founded in 1978, Literacy Volunteers of Central Connecticut’s mission is to transform the lives of learners and their families using student-centered approaches that foster autonomy and promote language proficiency, career development, educational advancement, citizenship, and family literacy, so that, together, we may contribute to a strong and equitable community.
Our vision is a world where everyone has the literacy skills to thrive.
Serving more than 300 people per year with the help of over 100 dedicated volunteers, LVCC provides adults with instruction and encouragement to improve their skills in reading, writing or speaking English so that they may achieve their work, family and community goals. In addition, our family literacy programs help parents to gain literacy skills to support their children’s success in school and to improve the financial sustainability of their families.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Statement: Literacy Volunteers of Central Connecticut is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. They are central to our mission and in reaching our vision of a world where everyone has the literacy skills to thrive. LVCC celebrates the diversity of our students, volunteers, staff, and community. We are committed to building a culturally competent and representative organization to advance racial, economic, and social justice.
