Programs

Each year we provide small group and one-to-one tutoring to over 300 adults. We provide flexible hours, individual attention, student-centered learning, and high-quality, caring volunteer tutors.  Typically, classes meet once per week for approximately two hours.  We serve beginner to advanced students.

The following are the classes we currently offer:

  • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) – for adults who want to learn English
  • Basic Literacy – reading and writing for English speakers
  • Digital Literacy – learning to use a computer
  • Math – basic to pre-GED
  • Talk to Tots – for parents and caregivers of children birth to 5 years; classes focus on early talk and interactions to strengthen babies’ development

Also, we partner with the Central Connecticut Family Literacy Center (CCFLC):  CCFLC offers classes for New Britain mothers with children ages 8 and younger.  Classes include English for Speakers of Other Languages, Adult Basic Education, GED, as well as Parent and Child Together (PACT)/Parenting.  CCFLC is located at the YWCA New Britain.  Students who are interested in enrolling in CCFLC should call for additional information:  860 225-4681 x 255.
